Spam, Spam, Spam!
David’s inbox has been getting a lot unwarranted email recently and so if you want to send him a message, please make the header something guitar related in order to get around the rather vicious spam filter we’ve had to put in place.

David Mead is the best selling author of titles like Ten Minute Guitar Workout, Chords and Scales and 100 Tips For Guitar. A respected journalist, he has edited two of Europe’s biggest selling guitar magazines and contributed numerous articles to music publications worldwide.

‘A fantastically analytical mind - and a wonderful player…’ Martin Taylor MBE

iTalk Guitar
David has just taken over as online editor for an exciting new networking website called iTalk Guitar.

The site is a meeting place for guitarists of all styles and levels of ability where you can chat in the forum, read up to the minute news and articles about playing.

By creating a profile on the site, you can upload MP3s and videos of your band, contact other like-minded players and get your playing heard.

David says: ‘The site is still in its beta testing stage at the moment, but I think it could quickly turn into something huge. I was very flattered to be asked to take over the online editing and look forward to playing my part in the site’s future development.’

New books!
David’s been busy at the word processor lately, resulting in no less than three books in the pipeline for forthcoming release via Music Sales.

First of all, there’s ‘24 Hour Acoustic’ which contains 24 structured lessons for the beginning acoustic guitarist. The book is accompanied by a DVD which shows you all the important moves contained in the text.

Secondly, there’s A Guitarist’s Guide to Reading Music for the Guitar which is, erm, self-explanatory, really! Here, David helps players who want to learn to read for the instrument begin the path towards total fluency. He says: ‘Tab is fine for a quick fix, but to get everything out of a page of music you really need to know how to join the dots. It’s not the easiest instrument to read for, but there are a few shortcuts available...’

Last, but not least, the latest title to leave for the publishers is called ‘Secrets of the Fretboard’. ‘It’s a little Indiana Jones sounding, I know,’ David says. ‘But basically it explores the theory behind chords on the fretboard - how they’re formed and how you can learn them without the need for constant reference to a tutor.’

The release schedule for this trio of books spreads across autumn 2008 to early spring 2009. We’ll post more details when we have them

Workout Erratum
David has received quite a lot of emails regarding a few printing errors in his book ‘10 Minute Guitar Workout’. So, to set the record straight once and for all, he’s produced a PDF alerting readers to the ones he knows about. You can download it by clicking here.

New Album - ‘Arboretum’
Following on from the success of David’s 2006 release, ‘Nocturnal’, work is already quite advanced on the sequel. ‘The working title for the album is ‘Arboretum’ and we’re well past the foundation digging stage,’ David tell us. ‘I’ve written quite a lot of new material and have made some demos, meanwhile I’m writing more tunes and hopefully everything will come together very soon.’ Watch this space!

All That Jazz...
After two years writing technique columns for Acoustic magazine, Martin Taylor and David are now collaborating on some articles for Guitarist. ‘This is where we started writing together way back in the early 1990s,’ says David. ‘I understand that the columns we wrote back then where we transformed ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ into a solo jazz guitar piece are still sought after!’ This time, Martin has recorded three different versions of the tune ‘Greensleeves’, beginning with a simple melody and bass part and turning into a full blown solo version. The new column is scheduled to begin in September 2008.
